When a New Zealand Ministry set a bold goal to double the country’s exports by 2025, they knew that enhancing their innovation capabilities would be key to realizing that goal.
As the Innovation Design Lead, Laura kicked off the initiative with the co-design and implementation of an enterprise-wide approach to operational and transformational innovation. Key thought leaders were then brought together to co-create a process to encourage idea generation, and to select and manage the best investments. We ran a competition for export double ideas, and then selected six of the highest value ideas to design, prototype and test in the real world. Big ideas – like national biosecurity, international market access, Maori agribusiness and innovating service delivery.
The project was such a success that Laura was asked to design a new service model for the Ministry. This included a permanent Service Design team that now delivers innovation design, capability development and thought leadership across the Ministry.
